Beautiful Historical Monuments in Portugal I


Belém Tower

Located in Lisbon, it was a defense tower built in the 16th century, by the king D. João II. It's portuguese Manueline architectonic style. 









Jerónimos Monastery 


Located in Lisbon, it took 100 years to build. It started in 1501 by the order of the king D. Manuel I. 
It's portuguese Manueline architectonic style. 
Inside are the sculpted stone tombs of the king D. João III and king D. Manuel I and their royal families,  the navigator Vasco da Gama, the writers Luis de Camões and Fernando Pessoa.





Batalha Monastery


Located in Batalha, it was built in 1386 by order of the king D. João I, in memory of the battle of Aljubarrota. 
It took 200 years to build.
It's portuguese Manueline architectonic style and Gothic
Here are resting the kings of the Dynasty of Avis and their royal family.








Mafra Palace 


Located in Mafra, it was ordered to built in 1717, by the king D. João V to pay the promise of the birth of his first child. It was a secondary residence of the royal family. 
The architectonic style is Baroque. 







Pena Palace

Located in Sintra, it was ordered to built in 1495, by the king D. Manuel I,  in honor of our Lady of Pena. 
The architectonic style are Romanesque and Manueline.







Castle of the Moors


It was built by the moors during the centuries 8 and 9, in Sintra. The reconquest happened in 1147 by the king D. Afonso Henriques. 
The castle was remodeled during the  reigns of king D. Sancho I, king D. Fernando I and king D. Fernando II.
